Children made use of walls, against which \u2018fag-cards\u2019 were flicked in games such as \u2018Nearest the Wall Takes\u2019 or \u2018Nearest the Wall Spins up\u2019. (Ackroyd, Peter: <em>London<\/em>. <em>A Biography<\/em>. London, Vintage Books 2001: 647). This is exactly what we used to do as children in a provincial German city, under the name of <em>Bostern<\/em>.
