Desperately searching Tupton

A mate of mine spent a year as a foreign language assistant in Derbyshire in the English Midlands. One day, he had to go to a small place called Tupton, but when he got there he couldn’t find what he was looking for. After some further vain enquiries he finally found out why. In the Midlands (and elsewhere) the in Tupton is pronounced like the in bush, whereas words such as bad are pronounced with the sound that we would “normally” give to the in Tupton. Unluckily, in Derbyshire there is not only a place called Tupton, but also a place called Tapton. He had been sent to the wrong place.
