Hot air from the pistol

Here are some of my favourite words from other languages: In Greek, the word for a threshold is katofli, and I imagine sentences such as “She was standing on the katofli”, or “She stumbled over the katofli”. Also in Greek, the word for a hair-dryer is pistolaki, which I think is wonderfully plausible. In Italian, scrambled eggs are uova strapazzate. Poor eggs! My all time favourite, however, is the Spanish word for handcuffs. It is esposas, ‘spouses’, ‘wives’, which, besides being fun, has the additional charm of being politically incorrect.
