Friday 17th

In both English and German, Friday the 13th counts as an especially unlucky day, both Friday and the number 13 being bad omens by themselves. Not so in Spanish, where there is nothing wrong with Friday. The unlucky day is Tuesday, and a Spanish proverb says that on a Tuesday you should neither go on a journey nor get married: “El Martes, ni te cases ni te embarques.” A well-known Spanish comedy duo is called “Martes y Trece” – Tuesday and Thirteen. In Italian, however, nothing is wrong with the number 13. Just the contrary, 13 counts as a particularly lucky number, the unlucky number being 17, and Friday the 17th being an especially unlucky day!
